From Dream to Screen and Beyond: My Creative Journey

For as long as I can remember, the dream of becoming a filmmaker has been a guiding star in my life. However, being visually impaired presents unique challenges, particularly when it comes to locating to a state that breathes that industry and handling equipment. In 2022, this obstacle led me to explore the 3D realm, and serendipitously, YouTube’s algorithm introduced me to the cinematic capabilities of Unreal Engine.

Herein lies the contradiction: Unreal Engine is primarily known for game development. Yet, it has opened up a world of possibilities for me. Alongside my Space Opera film project, I find myself venturing into game development, a field I’ve been equally passionate about. Both the film and gaming industries are notorious for their lengthy development and production timelines. To me, this is not a deterrent but an exciting challenge.

Embarking on this dual journey will undoubtedly be demanding, but my motivation transcends mere success. It’s about the thrill of creation, the joy of bringing visions to life that have been dormant for far too long. After years on the sidelines, I am fully committed to this endeavor, and ready for the long haul. It’s more than a project; it’s a testament to the belief that limitations are merely stepping stones to greater creativity.

Building Blocks

Maximizing Downtime: Laying the Foundations for Success

Currently, my primary workstation is unavailable due to a power supply unit (PSU) repair. This unexpected pause has, surprisingly, offered me a valuable opportunity to focus on the foundational aspects of my office organization and workflow. It’s a chance to step back and refine the infrastructure that will support my creative process.

Streamlining My Workspace

One of my key tasks during this period has been creating physical shortcut maps for my workspace. These quick-reference guides are designed to be easily accessible and offer at-a-glance information that can streamline my workflow. It’s about making every tool and resource readily available.

Organizing for Efficiency

Another aspect I’ve tackled is decluttering my inbox. This may seem mundane, but a clean, well-organized inbox can significantly boost productivity and focus. By eliminating the clutter, I’m paving the way for a more efficient and streamlined communication flow.

Cultivating Productive Habits

Moreover, I’ve dedicated time to studying and adopting the necessary habits that are crucial for the success of my endeavors. Understanding that the foundation of any successful project lies in the discipline and habits of its creator, I’m focusing on ingraining practices that enhance productivity and creativity.

Optimizing Tools for Success

Lastly, I am in the process of setting up custom instructions for ChatGPT. I aim to optimize this tool for various situations, whether I need assistance with execution or support. By tailoring ChatGPT to my specific needs, I’m ensuring that when I do require help, it’s efficient, relevant, and precisely tuned to the task at hand.

The Emergence of AI in 2023: A Creative Revolution

The year 2023 marked a significant milestone in the creative world with the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This revolutionary leap extended across various domains, including text, art, audio, programming, and even 3D design. The frenzy caught the attention of many YouTubers, some of whom genuinely embraced the trend, while others seemed to ride the wave for quick fame and views. However, amidst this buzz, a consistent message resonated: with the right AI tools, anyone could venture into creating comics, short films, games, and more. I concur with this sentiment, but it’s crucial to understand that AI alone isn’t a magic wand. Realizing these creative endeavors requires not just AI but a comprehensive suite of standard applications and a blend of other creative AI tools.

The Plan: Chronicle of a Solo Creative’s Journey

My objective with this blog is to document my journey in establishing a solo creative studio. This venture involves navigating a landscape rich in diverse applications – from cost-effective options like Unreal Engine to comprehensive solutions like Adobe Creative Cloud. I’m also keen on exploring the ever-evolving array of creative AI tools, constantly seeking new technologies that align with my ambitions.

The Goal: Bringing Stories to Life

My ultimate aim is to materialize the myriad of stories that have been brewing in my mind for years. A key project on the horizon is a Space Opera (title forthcoming), envisioned as a film or web series. However, my aspirations aren’t confined to a single medium. I’m equally intrigued by the realms of gaming, music, and art creation. These are not just projects but channels to explore and satisfy my creative curiosities.

Hello, it’s me

As the clock ticks towards midnight on December 31st, 2023, I find myself on the cusp of a new beginning. This year, thanks to the ever-surprising YouTube algorithm, I discovered the Unreal Engine for creating cinematic shorts. My passion for 3D art has been reignited, especially with the emergence of NFTs as a new platform for distributing art. it feels like the universe is telling me to finally bring my space opera novel out of the shadows. Yes, I’m a proud nerd, and today, I’m committing to breaking old habits and cultivating new ones to chase my dream of film production and kickstart my creative career.

As a Millennial (class of ’86!), I’ve ridden the rollercoaster of trends and technological advancements that have shaped the Internet of today. Throughout these times, I’ve been an eager observer, researching and itching to participate. However, a cocktail of fear, financial constraints, skillset limitations, and my visual impairment often stood in my way. But now, there’s a shift in my mindset. I’m moving away from the fear of judgment, scarcity, and doubts about my abilities. Whenever I think about creating, I feel an undeniable energy propelling me to work, though fear has a knack for extinguishing it as quickly as it flares up.

Through introspection, I’ve realized the crux of the issue: a lack of focus and organization. Harnessing this creative energy requires a strategy to develop my skills effectively. Hence, this blog will not only document my creative journey but also serve as a guide for other creatives facing similar challenges.

I’ll leave this entry as it is, , sort of a ‘hello world’ moment. I’m heading into 2024 with a clear plan and a heart full of hope.
